The fourth wedding in the film (see last post) was held at St Julian’s, Smithfield, according to the script. It was actually filmed at St Bartholomew-the-Great church, originally the choir of the now destroyed abbey.
Hugh Grant played the groom. He had a scene here with Simon Kunz and John Hannah as they prepared to enter the church.
Grant was scheduled to marry Anna Chancellor’s character, but was in two minds about it as the dreadful moment approached. He was so ambivalent that she ended up by punching him in the head at the altar.
HISTORIC LONDON: X MARKS THE SPOT. Question 85. Anna Chancellor’s character had an unflattering nickname in the film. What was it?
