The Queen’s Bootlegger

This is a project dear to my heart, a proposed biography of Eric Sherbrooke Walker, the posh Englishman who was Lord Baden-Powell’s secretary before the First World War. Shot down over the Western Front, he escaped from prison camp with the help of a German girlfriend and later bootlegged liquor to the United States during Prohibition in order to raise enough money to marry an Earl’s daughter.

After fleeing America with the law in hot pursuit, Walker ended up in Kenya, where he built Treetops hotel in the forest. He was there with Princess Elizabeth when her father died and she became Queen. I have the family’s blessing for a biography, but I’m waiting for better times before I approach publishers with it.
